Review by hotel critic
Located strategically on the River Douro, Dona Carmen offers a unique blend of luxury and value. The convenience of easy access from main roads makes it an excellent pit stop for travelers crossing from Spain to Portugal. Our room featured French windows and a Juliet balcony with a river view, which was light and airy, enhancing our experience. The hotel provides a complimentary welcome drink upon arrival, a thoughtful touch that sets the tone. We opted for the half-board option, enjoying a well-priced three-course lunch complemented by local wine, yielding excellent value. The terrace overlooking the Tordesillas Bridge is a highlight, especially at night. With attentive staff and spotlessly clean premises, the comfort is apparent, albeit with a slightly mid-range ambiance. The absence of a pool this winter didn't detract from our stay, with the nearby medieval town easily accessible for exploration. For those considering the financial aspects of coastal lodging, Dona Carmen strikes a commendable balance between luxury and affordability.
